Wingate council authorizes litigation against owners of three nuisance properties

At its Oct. 15 meeting the Wingate Town Council voted to authorize Town Attorney Stu Weliever to initiate litigation against the owners of three properties the council identified as nuisances: 105 N. Mclure Street, 100 N. Mclure Street and 107 E. High Street. Council President Kyle Campbell made the motion, Andrew Lorenz seconded, and the motion carried.
The discussion preceding the motion focused on the condition of the properties, abandoned vehicles and securing the old bank building. Weliever recommended the town attempt to locate and notify the current owner of the bank about the building’s condition and suggested posting caution signage on the property. He also said the town could pursue court remedies against property owners who fail to address nuisance conditions.
