Poseyville council: water tower drained for 60 days; nitrate‑filtration plant due in about 30 days

Poseyville’s town leaders told residents on Sept. 10 that a scheduled water‑system project has put the town’s water tower out of service for about 60 days and that temporary changes are in effect to protect system pressure and safety. Council President Justin Rutledge said the tower has been drained and that several fire‑hydrant valves are open to relieve pressure while work proceeds; the fire department and extra police patrols have been notified.
Rutledge also reported the town’s nitrate‑filtration plant is approximately 30 days from completion and that the town’s insurance coverage will need to be updated once the project is finished. Clerk‑Treasurer Jodie Rankin said she will follow up with the insurance agent about any required changes.
Separately, the council accepted an SRF payment request to reimburse the Town of Poseyville $5,548 for equipment purchased from Hach Company. The reimbursement request was presented on behalf of Derick Wiggins and approved on a motion by Councilman Michael Baehl, seconded by Councilman Randall "Randy" Rankin; the roll‑call vote recorded Council President Justin Rutledge, Baehl and Rankin voting yes.
Marshall Carter of the police department told the council that Nix Industrial has the trailer being prepared for a speed sign and that no action was required by the council. Carter also alerted the body that the town’s Halloween "Hide From a Cop" event may place children on town property; Clerk‑Treasurer Jodie Rankin said she will contact the town’s insurance agent about a participant waiver.
The council approved the water‑related items as part of routine business and recorded the actions in roll‑call votes. The council scheduled a public hearing for Sept. 17, 2024, and will consider budget items at its next regular meeting on Oct. 8, 2024.
