The Poseyville Town Council voted July 9 to approve Rezoning Ordinance 2024-07-09-01, consolidating zoning for the Nix Companies property.
Council President Justin Rutledge and Council Member Michael Baehl moved and seconded procedural steps to suspend the ordinance’s second reading and to adopt the rezoning measure; roll-call votes recorded both members as voting yes. The Area Plan Commissioner of Posey County presented the request and said there was no opposition at the county planning commission.
Mr. Nix, representing the property owner, said the request was intended to make the entire complex a single zoning designation (the building is currently split down the middle) and that a screen buffer of pine trees would be added when construction is complete. Mr. Seib, speaking for the Area Plan Commission, confirmed there had been no APC opposition to the change.
Why it matters: rezoning alters permitted uses and review paths for the site and eliminates the administrative complexity of a split zoning designation on a single building. The council’s approval clears the way for the property owner to proceed with the planned construction and landscaping as presented to the commission.
The council took the vote during the July 9 meeting after the APC presentation; no public opposition was recorded in the meeting minutes. The council did not attach additional conditions beyond the buffer mentioned by Mr. Nix. The next regular council meeting is scheduled for Aug. 13, 2024, when remaining proclamations for school sports will be presented.
