The North Knox School Corporation Board of Trustees opened its meeting, approved routine business and moved several personnel and procurement items forward without final awards.
Board members unanimously approved minutes from the Feb. 9 meeting and accepted the claims and financial statements presented in Tab D of the packet after motion and second. Trustees then completed the second reading and adopted Volume 37, Number 2 (April 2025) of the district’s policies and guidelines; a board member asked staff to consider adding vaping-specific language to the sections on smoking and alcohol, and Taylor said staff would review and report back.
The board appointed Pam Loharder to the Vincennes Township Public Library Board of Trustees and approved the appointment by voice vote. The board then opened three bids for demolition of the east project and took them under advisement; staff will compare submissions and return with a recommendation before any award. The transcript records three bids: Mullen (listed in the transcript as "Mullen Squad") reported a total of $368,769 (the transcript also includes a garbled larger figure immediately following), Collins is recorded with a garbled figure shown as "596,20011," and Robinson Escav submitted $319,898. Trustees explicitly said no award would be made that night and that staff would check that bids are compared "apples to apples."
A late agenda addition asked for authorization to advertise an invitation to bid for furniture and related items for the CT program at North Knox Junior-Senior High School; bids are due by April 8. The board approved the invitation to bid.
On personnel matters, trustees approved the employment of Amy Decker as varsity volleyball coach and Jill BS as junior varsity volleyball coach. The board accepted resignations from varsity girls basketball coach Steve Mir and school staff member Bob Hunt and publicly thanked them for their years of service. The board also accepted the retirement/resignation of Knox intermediate nurse Debie Babcock and approved a requested material leave for Tiffany Riddle from Aug. 1 to Sept. 8 next year. Finally, the board approved hiring Eric Jardage as North Knox intermediate custodian.
Administrators reported academic and operational updates: ENKP second graders passed a referenced assessment at 54% versus a reported state average of 51%; makeups and retests are scheduled through May. Staff also reported a recent American Heart Association fundraising drive that raised $837.34. School officials noted completed WIDA testing for English learners, SAT/PSAT attendance with zero juniors absent for testing, athletic and activity updates, and that a soccer scoreboard was ordered.
The board set its next meeting for April 13 in the boardroom (time discussed during the meeting; chair later confirmed April 13 at 5:00) and adjourned by voice vote.
At this meeting, no formal contract awards or ordinance-level actions were finalized; the demolition bids were received for review and will return to the board for a later decision.
