North Knox School Board approves routine business, several personnel actions and sets bid opening for building project

The North Knox School Corp board handled routine business and multiple personnel matters in its meeting, approving minutes, claims and financial statements, several personnel actions and scheduling bid openings for a facility project.
The chair opened the meeting and the board approved the January 12 minutes and claims and financial statements included in the board packet by voice vote. The board also approved a first reading of proposed NEOLA policies (Volume 37, Number 2); no vote was required on first reading.
Personnel actions approved included acceptance of the resignation of boys and girls basketball scorekeeper Matt Hill; the hiring of varsity boys soccer coach Brandon Dorsy; approval of a request related to instructional aide Samantha Smith; maternity leave for Brianna Oregon beginning March 23 through the end of the school year; and employment of instructional aides including Amy Hegmire and a temporary intermediate aide (Kim). The board also approved a post-prom event for April 25 at the Junior-Senior High School.
An administrator reported a range of school activities and operations: an American Heart Association drive running through the 27th with hands-only CPR and stroke-recognition resources for families; upcoming checkpoint testing postponed by snow; a disability-awareness field trip for fifth graders; a March 3 book-blast distribution where every child will receive a book; spring drama club performances on April 10–11; improvements to bus radios; and positive results from synchronous learning and device distribution after weather-related closures.
On facilities, staff updated the board on the Edwards Sport building construction project, reporting that work remains ahead of schedule. Contractors toured the site; bids are due the Friday before the next board meeting and will be opened at that meeting. Staff cautioned there might be additional exterior plumbing work and associated costs because of a flat grade that contributed to pipe rusting; asbestos abatement, foundation removal and parking-lot removal were described as tasks contractors should include in bids. The board said it would likely take bids under advisement rather than award the contract at the opening meeting.
The meeting closed with a reminder that the next regular board meeting will be Monday, March 9 at 5:00 p.m., and the board adjourned by voice vote.
