Board conditionally accepts low demolition bid for North Knox East pending final contract

The North Knox School Corp Board of Trustees voted to accept the lowest bid for demolition of North Knox East, contingent on final contract language and bidder acceptance.

A staff member reviewing old business told the board the three bids received were: Karns at $596,200; Robinson's at $319,898; and Mullins at $368,769. The staff member said the district’s attorney is preparing a contract that will specify obligations including asbestos notifications, removal of footers, required weight tickets and hours worked and recommended that the low bidder sign the final contract before the district proceeds.

The board discussed two options: approve the low bid tonight and present the completed contract to the chosen bidder for signature, or wait until the attorney completes the contract and then present it to the low bidder for acceptance and approve at the next meeting. The staff member advised either approach would work but recommended conditional approval tied to contract signing so work can proceed in a timely manner. The board then moved, seconded and approved the motion to accept the low bid pending completion of the contract and bidder acceptance.

The board did not record individual mover/second names or a roll‑call tally in the record; the motion carried by voice vote. The board directed staff and legal counsel to complete the contract and proceed to the next steps of bidder notification and signature.

Next steps: staff will present the final contract to the selected bidder for review with its legal counsel; if the low bidder declines, the board will move to the next lowest bidder per the district’s procurement practice.
