Zionsville board approves construction contracts for auditorium, track, fire alarm and other upgrades

The Zionsville Community Schools Board of Trustees voted Feb. 9 to accept recommended construction bids and authorize district leadership and Skillman Corporation to execute contracts for a multi-project facilities program funded by the 2025 bond issuance.
Assistant Superintendent of Operations Matthew Doublestein presented a list of projects that includes the ZCHS 1977 auditorium renovation, stage lighting and flooring updates at ZMS and ZWMS, ZWMS track renovation and parking lot asphalt/curb/sidewalk replacement, parking work at Boone Meadow Elementary (BME) and Stonegate (SGE), exterior and EIFS renovations at Eagle Elementary entries and interior columns, fire alarm and PA renovations at BME, SGE and UE, temperature control upgrades at ZWMS and UE, ZCHS stadium and aquatics sound system updates, and the next-phase corridor ceilings and paint updates at ZCHS.
Doublestein told trustees that the 2024 deliberative facilities study identified these projects and they were included in the 2025 bond program; bidding conditions were competitive and allowed the work to proceed within the identified budget. Trustees asked questions about completion timelines, how Skillman divides scopes among contractors for multi-contractor packages, and material consistency across multiple projects.
Trustee Jennifer Valentine moved to accept the bids and authorize the leadership team and Skillman to execute contracts as presented; Trustee Christy Wessel-Powell seconded. The motion passed 5-0. Project completion dates were set for July/August 2026 for most items, with the ZCHS auditorium scheduled for June/July 2027.
