The Zionsville Community Schools Board of Trustees on Nov. 10 ratified a 2025–2027 collective bargaining agreement with the Zionsville Educators Association that raises the district starting teacher salary to $52,500 and applies step increases for eligible staff.
Superintendent Rebecca Coffman presented the agreement and its key provisions, including a six‑step move on the salary schedule (equating to about $3,000) for eligible teachers in 2025–26 (five steps/$2,500 for employees already at step G4 or beyond) and a four‑step move (about $2,000) in 2026–27. Eligibility for the increases requires a prior‑year rating of Highly Effective or Effective, at least 120 days of employment in ZCS, and no unauthorized leave beginning in 2025–26. The districts also clarified that teachers will be paid their individual hourly rate for summer‑school instruction.
The agreement implements the additional $200 literacy‑endorsement payment provided under Indiana Code (IC 20‑28‑9‑2.5) for teachers who add a literacy endorsement to their license. It also adds select ECA positions (including elementary‑level robotics coaching), enhances paid coverage for maternity and parental leave, establishes a new discretionary leave tied to employment‑related circumstances, and grants special education teachers one day per semester to complete required IDEA‑related paperwork. The district reported the average teacher salary after the increases will be approximately $71,000.
Mr. Michael Berg moved to ratify the collaborative bargaining agreement; Dr. Christy Wessel‑Powell seconded. The motion passed unanimously, 5–0. The board did not record individual dissenting votes in the minutes.
Next steps: the agreement takes effect for the 2025–2027 contract term as allowed by law and the district will implement the salary and benefit changes as described in the ratified agreement.
