Ennis City Commission approves settlement with Ennis Main Street nonprofit

The Ennis City Commission approved a settlement with Ennis Main Street, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit also known as Destination Ennis, following a closed executive session on Monday morning.
Commissioner Haney moved "to approve settlement with Ennis Main Street 501(c)(3), aka Destination Ennis, based on the terms as documented in [the] 04/07/2026 agreement letter signed by the attorneys to resolve the current lawsuit and to address the disputes raised therein and to authorize the mayor to execute any final settlement documents approved by the city attorney's office to complete the settlement and dismissal of the case," and Commissioner Jones seconded the motion. The chair put the motion to a voice vote and announced that the ayes have it; the motion carried.
The executive session was held under Texas Government Code §551.071 to consult with the city attorney about pending or contemplated litigation. The litigation was identified in open session as City of Ennis v. Ennis Main Street, case number 1168355, pending in the 40th Judicial District Court, Ellis County.
The commission also noted that, as part of resolving the dispute, the parties have jointly agreed to release a jointly agreed statement by April 30. The motion authorized the mayor to sign any final settlement documents approved by the city attorney to complete the settlement and dismissal of the case.
The commission convened into executive session at 6:02 a.m., reconvened at 6:33 a.m., and adjourned at 6:34 a.m.
