The Tusayan Town Council on Oct. 8 approved a three‑year contract with Christmas Décor for holiday lighting installation after staff negotiated a lower price and agreed to remove problematic light arches from the plan.
Town Manager Hendrix told the Council the revised proposal reduces costs and eliminates the difficult‑to‑install arches; Council Member Josh Collet moved to accept the proposal and Vice Mayor Greg Brush seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Council also received updates on the Explore Tusayan destination‑marketing work. Hendrix said the town has received its first social‑media campaign report and has initial drafts of a refurbished town website; she told the Council that a trade delegation from France is scheduled to visit Tusayan on Jan. 24 and that local businesses will be invited to participate.
On community programming, staff proposed a Healthy Living Library check‑out program and an event tied to the town’s food pantry on Nov. 20 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., which would include cooking demonstrations coordinated with Coconino County. Grand Canyon Unified School District Superintendent Matt Yost voiced support for continued collaboration on after‑school programming and park student participation.
The Council gave staff direction to pursue an astronomy night and a drone show as part of events programming. No new town fees or budget adjustments tied specifically to these event authorizations were adopted during the meeting.
