The North Knox School Corp. board approved several routine items during its meeting, including a property and casualty insurance renewal, continued emergency agreements with a local hospital, two community donations, and multiple personnel hires.
The approvals began with a voice vote to accept minutes from the Nov. 17 meeting and to adopt the board's claims and financial statements. The board then reviewed an insurance renewal presented as the district’s property and casualty coverage through Burkhard Insurance. The presenter described the renewal amount as roughly $159,898 with an additional listed figure of $30,994 and said a builder's risk policy for ongoing construction would add about $6,100; the board approved the renewal as presented.
The board next voted to renew a memorandum of understanding with Good Samaritan Hospital to continue arrangements for alternate care sites and bus usage during emergencies. The presenter noted the district has used similar agreements in prior years. Two donations were then accepted: $3,978 from United Way of Knox County earmarked for K–3 tutoring, and $454 from the Bond/Huey family to cover negative lunch balances at North Primary.
On personnel matters, the board approved the appointment of Amy Decker as principal at North Primary, the hiring of extracurricular bus driver Josh Chambers, and the employment of Samantha Ishman as an instructional aide at the alternative school. Each of those actions was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.
Throughout the meeting, votes were recorded as voice votes with members responding "I"; individual vote tallies by name were not read aloud on the record. The meeting closed after the board set its next meeting for Jan. 12 at 5:00 p.m. and moved to adjourn.
What happens next: The approved insurance renewal and the builder's risk coverage will be implemented through the district's broker; the MOU with Good Samaritan Hospital remains active for future emergency planning. Personnel appointments will be reflected in district personnel records.
