Meridian Hills council adopts 2025 budget, approves cuts to 2024 appropriations

The Meridian Hills Town Council on Oct. 14 adopted its 2025 budget ordinance and approved a separate resolution trimming portions of the town’s 2024 appropriations.
Greg Jacoby moved to adopt the 2025 Appropriations and Tax Rates ordinance (Ord. 2024.008); Cole Marr seconded and the motion carried 3-0. The ordinance lists adopted fund budgets that total $526,950 for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2025, and an adopted property tax levy of $279,318 (combined rate 0.0892). Home-ruled funds are recorded separately with a combined adopted budget of $618,215 (Exhibit A).
The council also adopted Resolution No. 2024-007, recorded in Exhibit B, which reduces several 2024 budget line items. The resolution lists specific reductions including: Rainy Day Fund—Services & Charges Street Maintenance $15,000; Services & Charges Other $25,000; Infrastructure—Road Projects $40,000 (total Rainy Day reductions $80,000); MVH Restricted Fund—Repairs & Maintenance $60,000; Local Road & Street—Capital Outlay (Paving) $50,000; Town Beautification—Services & Charges $7,500; Law Enforcement Continuing Education—Services & Charges $1,500; and Donation Fund—Capital Outlay Police Equipment $10,000. The Clerk-Treasurer was authorized to make the reductions identified in the resolution.
The minutes record that the motions to adopt the 2025 ordinance and to approve the 2024 reductions passed on recorded motions (Greg Jacoby moving, Cole Marr seconding) with a 3-0 vote. The ordinance text and line-item reductions appear as Exhibits A and B in the meeting packet. The ordinance was stated to be effective upon passage.
Next steps identified in the minutes: the Clerk-Treasurer is to execute the reductions authorized by the resolution and the town will proceed with the statutory processes required for budget adoption and recording.
