"We found this community wildfire protection plan...1, water sources; 2, identifying areas and towns that could use extra fire protection," Fire Chief Morse (speaker 9) told the board, summarizing months of work and the plan’s focus on water sources, vulnerable areas and homeowner guidance. He said the plan would support grant applications for dry hydrants and other infrastructure; the chief cited an initial $35,000 estimate for a dry-hydrant project at Pleasant Pond.
Board members said endorsement is needed to certify the plan and make the town eligible for certain state and federal grants. One member noted the plan was developed with multiple agencies and citizen volunteers and carries no direct cost for plan adoption; costs would depend on which grants and matching funds the town pursues.
