Mayor: Cities working with county to preserve Senior Center services; opioid settlement postponed

Mayor Bill Aslett provided an update on the Senior Center transition and other city events during the Feb. 12 meeting.
Aslett said he convened a meeting with officials from the county’s other cities after the county announced it would stop funding the Senior Center program; he said the cities are working together with county staff to find a compromise that preserves essential services for seniors. "I called a meeting with the other three cities in the county to discuss the county's unilateral decision to stop funding the Senior Center program," Aslett said. "I am confident the cities can work together with the county to reach a compromise that preserves the essential services our seniors rely on." The mayor added that county staff have assured the cities that efforts are underway to avoid service interruption.
Aslett also noted the North Star opioid settlement item was postponed and will return at a future meeting. He described upcoming local events including a tour of the STAR Center, the EDASC Economic Forecast Dinner, the state financial audit exit interview (date TBD), and increased local construction activity at several apartment and townhome projects.
The council did not take action on the Senior Center funding in this meeting; the mayor said further interlocal discussions are ongoing.
