Council moves Teamsters MOU off consent agenda and defers vote for comparison

Councilors on Feb. 12 moved a contested Teamsters Local 231 Public Works Division Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) off the consent agenda for separate discussion and ultimately deferred the vote.
An initial motion to approve both consent items (which included the MOU) failed when the council recorded a 1–5 vote (Councilor Scott Green voted in favor; Councilors Kelsey Freeman, Jamie Weiss, Elizabeth Turman-Bryant, Jesús Pérez-Linares and James Stavig opposed). Councilors Jamie Weiss and Kelsey Freeman then successfully moved to place the MOU on the discussion portion of the agenda.
After discussion, Councilors Jamie Weiss and James Stavig moved to defer the MOU vote to a future meeting and requested that staff provide both the current and revised MOU versions for comparison. The motion to defer carried unanimously.
The council did not adopt the MOU at this meeting; no contract amendment or signature authority was granted. Staff will return with both MOU drafts for council review at a later date.
