Pima manager says pool-resurfacing grant may arrive mid-September; council asked to form park-design committee

Manager Vernon Batty told the Pima Town Council on Aug. 13 that grant money may be available in mid-September to resurface the town pool and that remaining grant funds would be directed to a new park/recreation area near the cemetery; Batty asked the council to form a committee to participate in the park's design.
Batty also reported a citizen interest in changing the town's limit of three splits per parcel and said he would consult the Planning and Zoning Board and review the relevant state statute to determine whether a variance could be granted.
In the Manager's report, Batty said one new Public Works truck had been picked up the previous week and a second truck is expected next week. Public Works Director Jimmie Lofgreen told the council that few building permits were issued in July. Chief of Police Diane Cauthen reported that the police department is busy and praised her officers' work. Librarian Rane Jones said the library still needs storm-damage repairs and will be closed for a couple of weeks for construction.
Juan Ciscomani is scheduled to visit the New School Road site on Aug. 19, Batty said. Councilmembers did not take final action on the pool or park design during the meeting; Batty will return with further details as grant timing and committee membership are clarified.
