Pima council approves election canvass, annexation and property transfer; votes 4–1 to invest town funds

The Pima Town Council on Aug. 13 approved the official canvass of the recent primary election and passed multiple ordinances and resolutions, including a property transfer and an annexation, and voted 4–1 to invest town funds in a certificate of deposit.
Manager Vernon Batty presented the primary-election results and the attached Canvass Resolution 2024-13; Vice Mayor Sherrill Teeter moved to approve the resolution, Councilmember Teresa Bailey seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. The council also approved Ordinance 2024-09 on second reading to complete an annexation; Vice Mayor Teeter moved and Councilmember C.B. Fletcher seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
The council approved Resolution 2024-11 to transfer real property to Fernando Felix Durazo after a motion by Councilmember C.B. Fletcher and a second from Vice Mayor Teeter; that measure passed unanimously.
On a separate financial motion, Councilmember Lucas Hoopes moved to invest town money in a certificate of deposit; Councilmember Teresa Bailey seconded. The motion passed 4–1, with C.B. Fletcher recorded as the sole nay vote. The council consists of Mayor Brian Paull, Vice Mayor Sherrill Teeter, Councilmembers Teresa Bailey, C.B. Fletcher and Lucas Hoopes.
Council discussed a citizen request to allow more than three land splits per parcel. Manager Batty said he will take the topic to the Planning and Zoning Board and review the applicable state statute to determine whether a variance is possible; the council gave Batty direction to proceed.
The council accepted the first reading of Ordinance 2024-10, which would amend Town Code Chapter 2, Article 2-5 (Sections 2-5-3 and 2-5-4). Vice Mayor Teeter moved to accept the first reading and Councilmember Lucas Hoopes seconded; the reading passed without objection.
