Selectboard hears Casella Waste pickup plan and awards mowing contract to Gregory Ring

The Selectboard received a presentation from Adam Graham, a representative of Casella Waste Management, about the company’s roadside collection service. Mr. Graham said Casella can provide receptacles for each residence and can include recycling for an additional cost to the town; for liability reasons the company will not drive down private roads and suggested leaving large receptacles at the end of private roads or driveways for trucks to empty.
Following opening of bids for mowing and bush-hogging of town properties, the board reviewed proposals and voted to award the mowing and bush-hogging contract for town properties (excluding the playground) to bidder Gregory Ring. Bids recorded in the minutes included Gregory Ring ($3,600 for mowing and bush-hogging as advertised), H&S Site Work (playground bid $8,500; other mowing/bush-hog $4,900) and Kelley and Sons ($2,300 for bush-hogging). The playground bid was tabled until after a cleanup scheduled for May 10.
The board tabled a separate decision on purchasing an advertisement in Paper Talks Magazine until the magazine editor can attend a future meeting to answer questions.
