The Crawford City Council on Dec. 22 approved a series of routine personnel and operational measures, selected a snow‑removal option with the Nebraska Department of Transportation and adopted a new employee health plan while noting limited near‑term cash flow.
On a motion by Council Member Christopher Dean, seconded by Dianne Gaston, the council approved the consent agenda, which included the reappointment of Brendan C. Lilley as Street Superintendent for 2026, reappointment of JEO Consulting Group as city engineer, authorization to advertise for bids to remove grandstands at the rodeo grounds, adoption (by consent) of Resolution 2025‑20 allowing delinquent water, sewer and use charges to be assessed against real estate as a special assessment for specified Outlot property, and acceptance of Patti Page’s resignation. Vote on the consent agenda: AYE — Dean, Gaston, Grant; NAY — none.
The council also voted to accept option #1 under the NDOT maintenance agreement for snow removal, authorizing the city to pay $5,497.80 for NDOT to continue snow removal on the designated route. The motion was made by Council Member Dean and seconded by Gaston; the vote was unanimous.
City Clerk Teri Miller presented a LIGHT BCBS insurance quote and told the council it would save the city roughly $44,000 compared with last year while providing substantially the same coverage. The council approved the clerk’s recommended option on a motion by Gaston, seconded by Dean; the vote was unanimous.
Miller also presented the Treasurer’s Report and warned that the city is tight on cash flow as revenue is realized; she said previously approved budget purchases may need to be delayed until receipts improve. Council Member Dean asked about the potential gains from a proposed sales‑tax increase and requested the item be placed on the next agenda.
