Selectboard prioritizes Taunton Drive and Upper Tunk Lake Road, plans Road Task Force

The Sullivan Selectboard on May 6 amended an earlier motion to prioritize repairs for Taunton Drive and Upper Tunk Lake Road and set plans to solicit bids for resurfacing work.
Norman Bamford, selectman and meeting chair, moved to amend the April 15 motion to make Taunton Drive and Upper Tunk Lake Road the town’s priorities; Erin Shanahan, selectman, seconded and the amendment passed 3–0. Town Manager Ray Weintraub said staff and the Road Commissioner will draft a bid packet with specifications and then seek contractors.
At the April 15 meeting, resident Mike Hoskin had proposed forming a Road Task Force to identify roads needing repair and to create a maintenance schedule. The Selectboard scheduled formation of the task force for the May 20 meeting and asked that a public call for volunteers be posted on the town website and Facebook page.
Selectman Gregory Ring emphasized Upper Tunk Lake Road as a high-priority location for repair during the discussion. No dates or dollar amounts for the road work were specified at the meeting; Weintraub said the town has not yet issued bid requests because the specification packet remains to be prepared.
The board’s next steps are to finalize the bid packet, advertise for bids, and return to the Selectboard with responses. The May 20 meeting may include further organization of the Road Task Force.
