Tusayan approves Big E catering for holiday lighting; schedules drone show and half marathon date

The Tusayan Town Council approved Big E Steakhouse to provide food service for the Holiday Lighting Event, selecting Creamy Loaded Potato Soup and Smokey Shiitake Tortilla Soup and opting for the four-employee staffed service option.
Town Manager Hendrix presented three service and menu options that had been bid; the council voted to accept the Big E quote with the selected soups and staffing option. Mayor Clarinda Vail moved acceptance and Vice Mayor Greg Brush seconded; the motion carried with all present voting aye.
Hendrix and Vice Mayor Brush also reported talks with the Stellar Drone Show operator. They recommended beginning the program with the Stellar Drone Show followed by a Fall Theme Show, launching from the same site used for the Astronomy Night event. The Grand Canyon Half Marathon remains scheduled for Nov. 2; council members discussed volunteer needs and asked staff to be mindful of hunting season when coordinating the event and student involvement.
No additional funding authorizations outside the accepted catering quote were recorded at the meeting.
