Consultants present draft master plan for proposed Tusayan sports complex

Consultants from Orcutt Winslow, Michael Taylor Architects, Inc., and The Sports Facilities Companies introduced a draft Tusayan Sports Complex Master Plan on Sept. 10, 2024, outlining the process of public engagement, assessment and recommended concepts.
Scott Sowinski (Orcutt Winslow), Michael Taylor (Michael Taylor Architects, Inc.) and Evan Eleff (The Sports Facilities Companies) described asset options calibrated to cost and community input. Grand Canyon Unified School District Superintendent Matt Yost, who served on the working group, said the project "has gotten a little nicer each time" and that the planning process provided repeated opportunities for community input. School Board member Pete Shearer emphasized that earlier discussions suggested playground expansion should be a higher priority than a dog park to serve children.
No formal council vote on project funding or final design was recorded at the meeting; the presentation served to inform the council and public and gather feedback for next steps.
