Youngtown approves $163,800 fence contract for roundabout perimeter

The Youngtown Common Council on May 7 approved a $163,800 contract with Standard Construction to replace and relocate a fence along property adjacent to the Salt River Material Group (SRMG) roundabout project.
Town Manager Brian Stutsman told the council the existing vinyl fence was in poor condition and the town will remove the vinyl panels while leaving concrete footers in place. “We will remove the vinyl fence and relocate our new fence approximately 3 feet east, placing it on our property line,” Stutsman said, adding the town will assume maintenance responsibility. He said the new barrier will be a five-foot wrought-iron fence without gates and that it will not function as a security fence over a drainage area at Uribe Park because flood-control rules prevent attaching fencing there.
Vice Mayor Vickers asked whether any removed materials could be salvaged; Stutsman said the footers would remain. Councilmember Karen Haney Duncan asked about fencing material and Stutsman confirmed wrought iron was specified. The council approved the contract on a 7-0 roll‑call vote (Ayes: LeVault, Vickers, Chittenden, Haney Duncan, Francis, French, Kaczynski; Kaczynski’s telephonic yes was recorded).
The town discussed bidding the remaining segment of fence from the roundabout to a storage unit; staff will return with any additional procurement recommendations.
