Innis approves interlocal inclusion for fire department and awards concrete-repair contract for Woodcrest/Hackberry

The Innis City Commission on May 19 approved two items related to emergency response and street repairs.

First, the commission adopted a first‑amended interlocal agreement authorizing the mayor to execute an amended special-response-team interlocal to add the Innis Fire Department. Chief Evans said the addition will allow the city to provide EMS coverage for special operations when staffing allows and that, if on-duty personnel respond, there would be no additional fiscal impact; off-duty responses would be compensated at overtime rates when required.

Second, the commission approved a contract with Boardwalk Paving & Construction LLC for concrete repairs and storm inlet work on Woodcrest Drive and Hackberry Drive in a not-to-exceed amount of $58,364. Staff explained the work covers eight locations (including two storm inlets) and one ADA curb improvement, and said delays in earlier repair were to avoid damage from heavy construction detours. Commissioners asked about warranty periods and whether subgrade/geotechnical testing would verify base stability before placing new concrete; staff said compaction testing is required and that geotechnical firms on the citys roster will provide subgrade verification and density testing.

Commissioners also raised prioritization questions about older streets citywide; staff said additional RFQs for other streets and further geotechnical evaluation are underway. The motion to approve the contract passed by voice vote.
