Wingate tables decision on utility rate studies as council hears maintenance and fire reports

The Wingate Town Council on Aug. 13 reviewed multiple quotes for water and wastewater rate studies and chose to table a decision pending further consideration.
Facilitator Janet Alexander summarized four written quotes: Baker Tilly at $10,000 per utility ($20,000 total); London Witte Group with a basic review not to exceed $6,250; Krohn & Associates at $4,500 per utility ($9,000 total); and Kleinpeter Financial Group offering $3,500 per utility or $6,000 for a concurrent study, with payment terms tied to construction financing. After discussion Kyle Campbell moved to table the matter; Andrew Lorenz seconded and the motion carried.
Maintenance Supervisor Jay Busse reported an installed new water service for a property preparing four new houses and described recent crack-sealing/road treatment where vendor applied test sealant to two blocks. Busse said an old metal sewer line beneath the railroad causes recurring blockages requiring jetting every two to three months and raised concerns about children placing basketball goals that overhang the street.
Troy Elless of UMAC reported a June lift-station overflow after heavy downpours while one of three pumps was out for repair. Coal Creek Fire & Rescue Chief Darren Forman reported 19 service calls in July (five fire calls, 14 EMS), the highest monthly total to date and a year-to-date total of 85 calls through July 31.
Council did not take further action on the rate-study quotes at the meeting; the item will return for future consideration.
