Councilwoman Hartman told the Town of Ulster Board on June 18 that 54 children were registered for the town's summer camp, with two additional spots to be funded by the PBA and two privately funded participants. "We have 54 children registered for summer camp at this point," Hartman said, and she emphasized that staffing levels were adjusted to match registration.
Mr. Groot announced the hiring of eight seasonal camp counselors, listing hires including Josephine Fino, Miley Pagano, Matthew Koljack, Michael Brega, Joshua Hornbeck and Brody Norton. The personnel hires were approved at a rate of $18 per hour for the camp season running roughly from July 6 to Aug. 21.
The board also approved hiring Daniella Reynones as a part-time police officer, a union-covered, non-competitive position with a starting wage of $29.23 per hour and an anticipated start date of June 19. Chief Forarity recommended the hire and noted she is attending the Ulster County Law Enforcement Training Group Police Academy.
In related personnel action, the board authorized Detective Fitzgerald to accept a U.S. Marshals task-force assignment that requires travel outside the town; the authorization ensures the detective's insurance is covered by the town while he participates. Chief Forarity said the assignment allows local officers to network with state and federal partners and to call upon those agencies' resources when needed.
Hartman also reported on recreation planning for the Oct. 24 Town of Ulster Fall Festival, saying vendors (including food trucks) are being secured, organizers hope to add craft vendors and are planning family activities such as a tug-of-war and additional games. She asked staff to begin poster design and to put department heads on notice about the event.
The board completed these personnel and recreation items as part of its regular agenda and approved the motions by voice or roll call where recorded. The meeting recessed for executive session on contract negotiations after public items concluded.
