Western Wayne trustees approve transfers, banking authorization, handbook change and multiple hires

The Western Wayne Board of School Trustees on Sept. 11 approved a slate of fiscal and personnel actions, including Resolution #13‑2025 to transfer available cash balances to the district’s Local Rainy‑Day Fund and authorization to open a Public Funds Silver Eagle account with designated signers.
The unanimous votes (5‑0) followed routine business. Brent Fortman moved and Sarah Pennington seconded the resolution to move cash to the Rainy‑Day Fund; all five trustees voted yes. The board also approved opening the Silver Eagle account with signatures for Andy Stover, Peggy Huesman and Robin Hokey (motion by Fortman, second by Dave Sturgis).
Board members approved an amendment to the Lincoln Middle/High School student handbook adding language on other electronics to the cell‑phone policy (moved by Sarah Pennington; seconded by Phil Pflum). The board approved an increase in adult meal prices to comply with U.S. Department of Agriculture requirements (motion by Dave Sturgis; seconded by Pennington).
Trustees approved extracurricular fundraising by the girls basketball program (selling Warm Glow candles and holding a softball tournament) and accepted donations including $1,000 to the trustee’s office for student sports tickets and $1,206.41 in bathroom fixtures from Sodexo. The board approved multiple non‑certified hires: Montana Barnes (HS instructional aide); Miranda Grimm (special education 1‑on‑1 aide); Tricia Stapleton (KG instructional aide); Angela Boyd (ES special education instructional aide); and Tommy Hampton (LMHS bowling coach). Coaching positions approved included Josh Carver (MS football assistant) and Bryce Smith (MS 7th grade boys basketball). Traci Linde was added to the LMHS Teacher Leadership Team.
All motions to approve donations, hires, coaches, the handbook amendment and payment of the bills passed unanimously, and the board adjourned at 7:07 p.m.
Patron comments earlier in the meeting touched on pay decisions for district administrators. Resident Karen Hinkein asked whether administrators were denied raises for financial reasons or performance; Mr. Stover replied the decision “was not financial” but said he could not say whether it was performance‑based. Board member Sarah Pennington said she was not comfortable approving administrator increases before teacher negotiations were settled.
