Former county solicitor urges broad participation in Elk County childcare survey

Former county solicitor Tom Wagner presented to the Elk County Board of Commissioners about a strategic planning effort aimed at improving availability and affordability of child care in the county.
Wagner said the Stackpole Hall Foundation-sponsored community assessment identified limited affordable child care as a workforce and education challenge for Elk County. He explained the committee contracted a Pennsylvania consultant to conduct surveys of families, employers and child care providers and that the survey forms and a public-facing website with QR codes became available the prior afternoon. "These survey forms will be directed at families...employers...and child care providers," Wagner said, urging broad participation between June and August so the committee can collect sufficient data.
Wagner said the committee will distribute materials to municipalities, partner organizations and county staff; he provided leaflets and asked the commissioners to post the information on the county website and social channels. The board committed to publicizing the survey through county channels.
No vote was taken; the presentation was delivered during the public comment portion of the meeting and served as a request for outreach and broader community engagement.
