The Houston Planning Commission on Aug. 31 approved a large set of consent and staff‑recommended items, including multiple plats and variances presented as grouped sections.
Staff (Ken Calhoun and other presenters) asked the commission to take Sections A and B together for items 1–94 and recommended approval of staff recommendations for most consent items. Commissioners approved the grouped consent items and later moved, seconded and approved motions to handle items excluded from the initial group.
Petra Shaw presented the Bridgeland Creekland Village general plan and associated variance requests (Item 105 and related items). Staff supported variances related to intersection spacing and private versus public street connections because field constraints (transmission easements, Cypress Creek and detention requirements) make strict ordinance application infeasible; Harris County engineering registered no objection. The commission approved staff recommendations for Bridgeland items and related plats, with a commissioner recusing where stated.
Other approvals included plats for Plaza Estates at Shelby, West Drew views, multiple administrative items (extensions, name changes, certifications), and development-plot variances such as a parking-variance approval for a historic neighborhood restaurant at Union Street. Several items were deferred at applicant request, including an off-street parking variance at 3200 South Shepherd and multiple East Block plat files.
The meeting record shows motions carried by voice vote on approved items and several deferrals to allow additional information, outreach or site plans.
