The Poseyville Town Council approved several public safety items during its Jan. 14 meeting. The council voted unanimously to hire Tyler Baker, currently with the Posey County Sheriff's Department, as a part‑time deputy for the town. The motion was made by Randy Rankin and seconded by Mike Baehl; the roll call vote was Rutledge: yes; Baehl: yes; Rankin: yes.
Marshal Carter asked the council to revisit enforcement of the town's weed and trash ordinance before summer and proposed adding two Flock cameras at an estimated cost of $3,000 per year per camera; the council asked Carter to discuss joint county options and report back rather than vote on camera purchases at the Jan. 14 meeting.
Fire Chief Kolley presented three quotes for calibration gas and recommended purchasing from VSI at $517 because the chief can pick up the supply and avoid high shipping charges; the council accepted the VSI bid by unanimous roll call. Chief Kolley also reported that volunteer firefighter Carl Mason resigned after 20 years of service and was presented with a recognition pen; the council thanked Mason and discussed recruiting and training for the volunteer department.
