Poseyville council approves routine claims, payroll and ordinances; hears department updates
Summary
The council unanimously approved minutes, the claims and payroll dockets, bank reconciliations, 2025 meeting dates, two resolutions on appropriations and investments, an ordinance authorizing preapproved payments, and several appointments; it also received updates from police, utilities, parks and cemetery staff including a police toy drive serving 107 families.
At its Dec. 13 meeting the Poseyville Town Council approved a slate of routine administrative and financial items, confirmed appointments and heard updates from town departments.
By unanimous roll call the council approved the Nov. 13, 2024 minutes; the Claims Docket (which the clerk said had a few additions for sales tax commitments and a Verizon invoice); the Payroll Allowance Docket; and the November bank reconciliations. The council also approved the 2025 meeting dates to be posted on the town website and published in the Posey County News.
Clerk-Treasurer Jodie Rankin requested and the council approved Resolution 2024-12-10-01 to authorize small year-end transfers of appropriations. The council approved Resolution 2024-12-10-02 allowing investment of town funds; Rankin noted the town has been investing funds since July. The council also suspended the second-reading requirement and adopted Ordinance 2024-12-10-01 authorizing preapproved payment of claims; all those motions passed unanimously.
Posey County requested the appointment of the town’s representative to the Area Plan Commission; Justin Rutledge was approved to continue in that role. The Board of Zoning Appeals appointment was tabled; Ron Fallowfield will continue serving until a replacement is named.
Department updates included a police run report and a speed-trailer deployment with tracking software; Marshal Carter said a speed-trailer report will be provided at the January 2025 meeting. Marshal Carter also reported the annual toy drive will assist 107 families this year and thanked local donors. Utility Manager Diana Powell presented a new gas tracker rate of 8.9834, which the council approved. In parks, council members discussed replacing playground swings (funds available in the parks fund) and raised accessibility and insurance concerns that could prompt relocation planning when 2025 grant opportunities open. Mike Baehl also thanked the mowing crew for recent cemetery upkeep.
The council set its next meeting for Jan. 14, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. and adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
