Poseyville council selects 10-year loan and awards $61,116 concrete apron contract for fire station

The Poseyville Town Council on Oct. 8 voted to pursue a $60,000, 10-year loan from Crane Credit Union to finance a planned concrete apron replacement at the fire station and awarded the apron contract to Kihn Concrete for $61,116.
Council discussion reviewed two loan proposals: Crane Credit Union offered a $60,000 loan over 10 years at 6.50% with a $300 origination fee; First Bank had offered a three-year loan at 5.45% with a $400 origination fee but did not provide a 10-year option. After discussion, Council Member Randy Rankin moved to proceed with Crane Credit Union’s 10-year arrangement; Mike Baehl seconded the motion and both members voted yes.
For the apron replacement the council approved awarding Kihn Concrete Construction the work for $61,116. The contract scope noted one pour, tear out and haul-off of existing concrete (5,093 sq ft), use of 6-inch, 4,000-psi concrete with a broom finish, wire mesh reinforcement, and sawed control joints. The motion to award the contract was made by Mike Baehl, seconded by Randy Rankin, and approved by roll call (Baehl yes; Rankin yes).
Fire Chief Mike Crawford had requested $2,500 in additional year-end compensation for the department’s 18-member volunteer roster; Clerk-Treasurer Jodie Rankin asked for time to review budget impacts and the council voted to table that request (motion: Randy Rankin; 2nd: Mike Baehl).
Council members also noted the outcome of the department’s internal election: membership certified Jason Kolley as the new Fire Chief; because the position is paid the council must formally approve the appointment for State Board of Accounts (SBOA) purposes at a future meeting. The Township Board was invited to attend a joint meeting on Nov. 13; no appointment vote was recorded on Oct. 8. Council Member Mike Baehl expressed thanks to outgoing Chief Mike Crawford, saying, "It has been a pleasure working with Mike over the last two years."
The council’s votes on the loan, contract award and the request to table additional compensation were all recorded by roll call and passed with both council members present voting yes.
