Timberlake council approves LED streetlight upgrades using NOPEC grant

The Village of Timberlake council voted Oct. 15 to retroactively authorize the mayor and fiscal officer to enter an agreement with The Illuminating Company to replace 11 street lights on Lake Shore Boulevard with LED fixtures.
Council suspended the three-reading rule before approving Resolution No. 2024-23. Kevin Thompson moved to approve the resolution and Jerry Joyce seconded; roll call was unanimous among members present.
Mayor John Marra said the upgrades will be paid with NOPEC grant money and “will save us on energy costs going forward.” The resolution was handled as an emergency measure; council members said expediting the work will allow the village to realize savings sooner.
The measure was presented and passed during the consent/legislation portion of the meeting. No dissenting votes were recorded; one council member, Ryan Konrad, was excused and did not vote. The administration did not provide a projected dollar amount for anticipated annual energy savings at the meeting.
Council moved on to other agenda items after approving the measure.
