Council discusses purchase of old bank building on Maple Street

Vice President Kris Shoemaker told the South Whitley Town Council on Dec. 17 that he had spoken with Tony Starkey about the town’s interest in purchasing the old bank building on Maple Street.
Shoemaker said the council had previously discussed offering approximately $50,000 for the building and $50,000 for the lot. Council President Brock Waterson noted the purchase is subject to the town’s required process, including obtaining appraisals before any offer is finalized. Shoemaker said he would follow up with Starkey and report back to the council.
No motion to purchase was made at the meeting; the discussion remained at the inquiry and follow-up stage.
