Faith-based recovery program updates council on house renovations, credits opioid-settlement funds and donations

Sedalia — Executive Director Jason Mlan told the council that the Embassy, a faith-based residential recovery program for men, has completed substantial renovations on program houses to improve habitability and program services for people leaving incarceration, homelessness or substance-use treatment.
Mlan described repairs at two properties, noting new electrical service, roofing, framing, plumbing, insulation and drywall work that remedied unsafe conditions and wet basements. He said the repairs were supported by opioid-settlement-related funds allotted for services like those the Embassy provides and by private donations from local businesses and contractors that helped cover unexpected costs such as a collapsed drain line discovered during work.
Mlan read a written testimony from a recent program graduate who said, "I haven't been home since 2022... My daddy is 80. She is 71. So tomorrow that prayer will be answered," presenting the testimony as evidence of individual program impact.
The Embassy director offered community tours of renovated houses and said the program seeks continued partnership with the city to sustain operations focused on men recovering from substance-use disorder.
What’s next: The Embassy will coordinate tours for council members and staff and said it will return to speak further about funding needs and program outcomes if the council requests additional detail.
