At the start of its July 15 meeting the City Council had Ms. Renee read a statutory notice under Louisiana Revised Statute 42:19.1 that the council will meet in open session to consider calling an election on Dec. 12, 2026 to renew three ad valorem taxes. The three renewal purposes listed were: maintenance of public buildings, streets and bridges; maintenance of playgrounds and recreation centers and equipment; and pay increases and starting salaries for police, fire, public works and other departments, including maintenance of the police three-platoon system.
The reading was a procedural compliance step that informs the public of the council's intent to consider placing the renewals on the ballot; any final decision to call the election or set rates would occur at a later council action as required by statute.
