Lake Charles council grants extensions, defers demolitions amid succession and repair progress

For 1517 Martha Street, owner Don Eric Muhammad appeared and asked for additional time, saying he was "very near completion" and had been communicating with city staff. The council extended his deadline by 90 days to September 16 and noted that would be his only formal notice. For 1621 Second Avenue (Judith Lynn Pichon estate and Amber Henry listed as owners), staff presented photographs showing storm and roof damage; council discussed whether the property was secured and agreed to a 60–90 day extension to allow the estate to obtain necessary signatures and permits. For 711 Fall Street (Rose Young Fontenot and Frank Fontenot), Annette Walker said a succession was in progress and asked for time; the council deferred the matter to the August 19 meeting so the succession can be advanced and permits pursued.
In each case the council emphasized the importance of securing permits and bringing properties into compliance, and it signaled it would pull items from future agendas if staff verified satisfactory progress before the next hearing.
