The Richmond Select Board on May 19 authorized the Parks Committee to submit an application for the USA Pickleball Association's 'Play It Forward' $50,000 grant to support construction of permanent public pickleball courts.
Denise Barnard, speaking for the Parks Committee, said the committee met to confirm eligibility and program requirements: courts must be permanently dedicated to pickleball, must open within 12 months of receiving funds, and the town must place a small placard acknowledging the association and host an ambassador event if awarded. "It's a very, very long shot, but we thought we'd give it a shot," Barnard said. The board approved submitting the application; staff will coordinate with parks committee volunteers on the submission.
The grant opened April 15 and closes June 3; awards are scheduled for announcement on Aug. 8 (National Pickleball Day).
