The Richmond Select Board voted May 19 to install a rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) crosswalk at the Gelina Court and Railroad Street crossing.
Town staff said the device has already been purchased and an overhead street light and a small easement from a nearby landowner had been discussed. Road foreman Pete Goslin described the intersection as dark at night and noted new multi-unit housing nearby increases pedestrian activity. "It'll serve two things," Goslin said, noting it will help residents cross safely from the apartments and encourage pedestrians to use the marked crossing rather than walking on the grass.
Board members discussed other candidate locations (Huntington/THBC intersection and the Round Church crosswalk) but ultimately approved a motion to install the RRFB at Gelina Court/Railroad Street by roll-call vote. Staff will follow up with the landowner on the required small easement and arrange installation and lamping.
