Redevelopment Director Maria Becerra told the Highland Town Council on Jan. 26 that the Redevelopment Commission has a scheduled closing on 8430–8436 Kennedy (an abandoned gas station) and is considering interim improvements to convert the parcel to greenspace. The closing was scheduled for Jan. 27, according to the minutes.
Becerra reminded business owners that Commercial Improvement Grants remain available through Redevelopment funds, offering up to 30% reimbursement for eligible exterior or interior improvements. She also reported that the Town approved $60,000 to fund forgivable homeownership loans of $10,000 each for participating police officers, firefighters and full‑time municipal employees; the program will be administered by the Redevelopment office and is funded with the Town's gaming revenue.
Becerra said annual reporting and other regulatory reporting requirements are being prepared by Redevelopment staff. She also promoted the Main Street Bureau's Restaurant Crawl and other business‑focused activities.
