Boulder panel renews Outback Saloontavern license after owner apologizes for late filing

Matt Wolvington, who applied for renewal of the tavern license for Outback Saloon at 3141 28th Street, told the Boulder Beverage Licensing Authority on June 17 that he missed the filing deadline by about six days and accepted full responsibility. Wolvington said he submitted the renewal but the payment did not clear because he selected the wrong account or experienced website login problems; he provided photos and timestamps to staff showing failed login attempts and later completed the payments.
The authority conducted the public hearing under Colorado law and city licensing rules. Chair Leah Roberts closed testimony and moved to renew the tavern license; Member Mike Carr seconded the motion. The board voted in favor and the renewal was approved.
City staff said the renewal will be sent to the state and, once returned, the city will email the applicant and provide guidance on accessing the state's CSS licensing portal from a laptop. Wolvington said he has held the license for 36 years and that this was the first delinquency in that span.
The Authority's action was limited to whether there was good cause not to renew the license; members who voted emphasized the applicant's long record of compliance and accepted his explanation and apology. The board adjourned after completing the scheduled hearings.
