Sweetser council reviews police staffing, vehicle and equipment needs and approves badge purchase

The Sweetser Town Council spent part of its March 13 meeting reviewing police operations while Interim Marshal Brad Moore was not in attendance.
Kyle Taylor reported that most patrol shifts are being covered and that he had tasked Interim Marshal Brad Moore to patrol every street each shift and make three stops per shift. Taylor said the department has reported staff changes to ILEA, is working on obtaining e-ticket access for deputy marshals, expects a new Tahoe to arrive in about two weeks, and is assembling proposals for new long guns for the 2024 Tahoe. Taylor also said the town needs to obtain medical bags for patrol vehicles.
The council considered a written proposal from US Public Safety Group for 13 new badges priced at $1,882.70. After discussion, Tyler Wineinger moved to approve the purchase for up to $2,000; Travis LeMaster seconded. The motion passed by roll call (three aye, two absent).
Taylor said he is researching whether employees have legal defense coverage under the town’s existing policy; town counsel Michael Hotz recommended that the town review the adequacy of coverage for both employees and the town. The council did not take further action on insurance coverage at the meeting.
Maintenance and parks departments provided no reports; the Parks President position remains vacant.
The meeting adjourned at 9:12 p.m.
