Sweetser council approves routine minutes and bills, hires consultant for sewer rate study and opens Amazon account

The Sweetser Town Council on March 13 approved a package of routine business and hired a consultant to begin a sewer rate study as the town evaluates roughly $215,000 in project financing needs.
Kyle Taylor moved to award a $7,500 contract to Kleinpeter Financial Group, LLC to perform a sewer rate study and provide project-related financial consulting; Tyler Wineinger seconded the motion. The council approved the $7,500 option — which includes collaboration with the town’s consulting engineer and assistance on funding applications — with a 3–1 recorded vote (Tyler Wineinger and Kyle Taylor voting aye, Travis LeMaster voting no; Matt Moore and Warren Dailey absent). Taylor said the expanded scope would better position the town to pursue financing and grants for sidewalk, street and stormwater projects.
The council also approved routine minutes and financial items. Tyler Wineinger moved to approve the minutes from the Feb. 27, 2025 meeting; Travis LeMaster seconded and the motion carried by recorded roll call. LeMaster moved to approve the payroll docket of March 7, 2025 and the bills docket of March 13, 2025; the council approved the motion by roll call vote with two members absent.
Council members discussed the town’s projected capital needs for sidewalks, streets and stormwater and were shown a cash-position summary indicating an estimated $215,000 in additional financing will be required to complete all planned projects. The council also discussed an unresolved pavement issue on DeVoe Drive related to the CCMG 2023-2 Street Project; the town is holding retainage and tabled the matter for later action.
On procurement, the council approved opening a $10,000 Amazon business credit line that will allow the town to place invoiced orders rather than using a credit or debit card. The motion requires two administrators to be assigned to the Amazon account and passed by roll call vote.
The council scheduled its next meeting for 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025.
