Wabash council swears in two probationary firefighters; hears school and leaf-pickup updates

The Wabash City Council administered the oath of office on Nov. 24 to two probationary firefighters for the Wabash Fire Department.
Mike Gil repeated the oath on the record: "I, Mike Gil, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Indiana and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge my duties as a probationary firefighter of the Wabash Fire Department ... to the best of my ability. So help me God." David Bradler likewise repeated the oath and concluded with "So help me God."
Council members then heard a series of routine reports. A council member noted the parks board lacked a quorum at its recent meeting. The Wabash City School Board reported improved finances, approved raises for classified staff and added 50 cents per day to bus drivers' base pay; Dr. Sidley was cited as reporting finances were better than projected and noted student and volunteer activities, including a youth leadership seminar and a group led by Erica Cordis that took middle school cross-country runners to a 4K in Louisville.
A department head answered questions about leaf pickup, clarifying crews will continue collection until freezing conditions prevent pickup and that any leaves after pickup stops must be placed in brown bags. The council set its next regular meeting for Dec. 8, 2025, at 6 p.m.
