The chair said advertising for the public hearing must meet a local deadline around Dec. 13 and the application is due on the 21st, creating a tight turnaround.
Supporters at the meeting said the new facility would serve women on a waiting list for recovery housing. Council members emphasized the short timeline: the chair called only a special meeting to handle the public hearing if the city proceeds, and said there would be no other business at that meeting.
If the council schedules the hearing, the public notice and advertised hearing would provide residents and stakeholders an opportunity to comment on the application and the proposed subrecipient arrangement with Waypoint. The council did not make a final decision on scheduling the special meeting during the Nov. 24 session.
