Sweetser council passes 2025 budget, appoints Matt Moore to open seat and as ADA coordinator

The Sweetser Town Council passed Ordinance 2024-8, the town's 2025 budget, on second reading at its Oct. 10 meeting and unanimously appointed Matt Moore to fill an open council seat.

Chair Kyle Taylor opened a public hearing on the budget; there were no public comments. After discussion, Councilor Warren Dailey moved to pass Ordinance 2024-8 on second reading; Councilor Travis LeMaster seconded. The motion carried with all five members voting Aye (Matt Moore, Warren Dailey, Tyler Wineinger, Travis LeMaster and Kyle Taylor).

The council also considered candidates for a vacant council seat. Travis LeMaster moved to nominate Matt Moore to the council and Warren Dailey seconded. The council voted unanimously to appoint Moore, and Clerk John Potter administered the oath of office.

At the same meeting Chair Kyle Taylor appointed Matt Moore to serve as the town's ADA/Title VI coordinator and asked Moore to review the police department's body camera policy. The clerk reported a recent INDOT CCMG-2 distribution had been received and deposited; RMA's Jocques Plothow said the HSIP package and estimate would be submitted Oct. 11, 2024, and reminded the council that the CCMG 2025-1 call for projects opens Jan. 2, 2025.

The ordinance passage was a formal second-reading approval; the budget amount and line-item details were included in the ordinance document (Ordinance 2024-8) but not recited aloud in the meeting minutes. The council did not record any dissenting votes on the budget or the appointment.

The council scheduled its next regular meeting for 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024.
