Sweetser council hears utility and maintenance updates; police staffing noted

The Sweetser Town Council received departmental updates at its April 10 meeting that covered several ongoing maintenance and utility items and a brief police department staffing report.
Operations Manager Patrick Kendall submitted a written maintenance report noting a fully executed document for the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) project is under review and awaiting approval from the states Fiscal Management Information System. The report said the towns sidewalk project has begun and crews have been cleaning up storm damage along the trail. The town identified a need for a new commode in the town hall pavilion restroom and plans to trim trees around the dog park.
The maintenance report also noted wet well alarms at the Case lift station and included a quote from CIC to replace and clean the Short Street lift station valve vault. Staff removed an overheating Return Activated Sludge pump and replaced it with a spare. The towns dump truck is at W.A. Jones for repairs and is expected to return in about three weeks.
Interim Marshal Brad Moore told the council he believed operations were "going pretty well," that most patrol shifts were being covered, and that Roger Bowland has rejoined the department while Lance Sands has departed.
In continuing business, Chair Kyle Taylor summarized recent discussions with Mike Kleinpeter and RQAW staff about the Master Utility Project and said council members discussed whether to apply for funding this winter (which would likely skew toward loans) or wait until next year to improve the prospects for receiving larger grant awards. No formal decision on the Master Utility Project funding timing was recorded in the minutes.
