Sunman council approves pay-stipend wording change, budget moves and redevelopment drafting; several items introduced for later action

The Sunman Town Council approved several administrative and budget actions at its March 2026 meeting and introduced a number of ordinances for future consideration.

On personnel pay, the council adopted an amendment to the 2026 salary ordinance clarifying that employees who do not work any hours in a pay period are not eligible for the $10 weekly cell-phone stipend and changing the payment wording to weekly (excluding a fourth week); the change was made retroactive to January 2023.

Budget actions included approval of Resolution 2026-01 to appropriate approximately $35,000 from an internal fund to pay for a sign project and passage of Resolution 2026-06 to move $35,000 into a rainy-day fund. The council also approved several routine items including minutes and special-meeting approvals and voted to reimburse travel costs ($1,190) for a council member who attended the Rural Water Lines Conference.

On economic development, councilors agreed to pursue formation of a redevelopment commission and directed the town attorney to draft a proposed ordinance outlining structure, funding options and partnerships; the council voted in favor of moving the draft forward.

Several items were introduced or read for future action: ordinance 2026-27 (parking and maintenance on town property) had a first reading and will return for a second reading, and ordinance 20-26-03 (cross-connection/backflow prevention) was presented as a state-model ordinance and will be considered next month. The council accepted a fire-department resignation and thanked the departing member; no additional personnel hires were decided at the meeting.
