Stilesville — At its March 11 meeting, the Stilesville Town Council voted unanimously to allow a memorial bench for Oaklynn Vasquez in the Town Park and approved routine financial matters including vouchers totaling $10,311.13.
Amber Cottey requested council approval to place the memorial bench, saying funds were raised through a GoFundMe and that a representative from Citywide Paving offered to donate a concrete slab for the bench. "We'd like the bench placed in the Town Park," Cottey said during the public request to the board. The council approved the request on a motion by Barbara Webster, seconded by Ernie Newby; the motion passed 3-0.
The meeting also included brief operational reports. The Fire Chief reported the concrete pad for the fire department’s mini barn had been poured. The Town Marshal gave the monthly police report and said he is coordinating with the county sheriff's office to provide traffic control for a Candlelight Vigil scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Stilesville Christian Church; the vigil was announced publicly by Cottey during the meeting.
Board members reviewed the annual financial report and signed the documents for the town file. The council approved payment of claims and vouchers dated March 1–31, 2026, from the voucher register in the amount of $10,311.13; the motion to pay claims passed by voice vote (3-0). The meeting adjourned after routine business.
