Topeka council greenlights PD repairs, names new housing development and accepts marshal resignation

Members approved Yoder Homes Services' quote of $30,855 to repair the police department basement after receiving two quotes. Council also directed staff to proceed with next steps on a new police department building plan, including coordination with DLZ engineers.
On development matters, the council endorsed the suggested name 'Sycamore Grove' for a housing development and approved a list of seven tree-themed street names to be forwarded to the Town Manager for implementation. Council also gave positive recommendations on fence requests for 315 W. Pine (property owner moving a shed), 137 N. Babcock and 203 Zook.
Other operational approvals included WD Fencing's $3,250 quote for a recycle-bin chain-link fence and W.A. Jones' $22,256 quote to repair an underbelly on a town plow truck; all motions were unanimous. Town Manager Stewart Bender reported bicycle-trail work is moving forward and will come east into town; Harold Gingerich (County Council) urged the town to begin planning. The meeting adjourned at 5:28 p.m.
